A beautiful sunny cold cold day. The perfect day to finish my socks!!!
I started these in February and just finished them today. They are an easy pattern, but I just couldn’t make myself work on them. They are called Widdershins from Knitty. They are toe up socks and I decided to work them on 2 circs. I figured as much trouble as I was having working on socks to start with that I’d better do two at once!
This pattern offers two versions – stockinette and a twisted cable. I opted for the twisted cable. I was being ambitious, first converting to two circs and then doing a twisted cable. I’ve worked one pair of socks on dpn’s using worsted weight a couple of years ago, so you see I considered this my first real pair of socks. I used size 1.5 needles and Wildfoote Sock Yarn in the color Elderberry.
They are not perfect – they are a little tight where the foot meets the ankle and a little loose on the leg, but they are warm and I will wear them. I love this cast off method by Grumperina (scroll down a little). This site has some wonderful hints and tips, so I plan on going to read more! Maybe I can figure out how to adjust a pattern to have it fit where I need it to for next time.
Overall I am thrilled with my first “real” socks and surprising myself, am looking forward to making another pair!
Hope you all have a happy rest of your weekend!
