I belong to this group on Ravelry called Bag A Month Club. Every month they nominate and then vote on a knit/crochet bag to work on for the month. It’s a lot of fun and I see bag patterns that I somehow missed seeing on my own.
The knitting bag for the month of June is 109-13 Bag with Pleats from Drops Design.

I haven’t knitted “pleats” before so this was a new experience for me and I enjoy trying something new. I used two skeins of Caron Simply Soft in the color Deep Teal Heather and size 10-1/2 needles. The pattern calls for bulky yarn and since I’m trying to knit from my stash I used two strands of the simply soft held together. I think it worked rather well and gives you a nice firm bag.

I used 1/2 yard of bee fabric for an unexpected surprise for the lining and added a button flap for a closure. I did a single crochet flap over 6 stitches because I just wanted to get finished at this point, but you could always make a knitted one.
On the handle I worked 2″ of seed stitch as per the pattern and then I worked the seed stitch in the round until the last 2″ and then went back to straight seed stitch. I did this because I didn’t want to do all of that seaming. The bottom is also seamed, which was good practise for me.
If I were to make another I would do the bottom a little different. I would co 54 stitches and knit 4/5 rows, pick up two stitches on the sides and 54 stitches on the cast on side for a total of 112 stitches and then work the pattern from there in the round. It would save a little time and I wouldn’t have the seam at the bottom.
Here’s a picture of me in the background – had to lift those fingers to keep them out of the way – lol.

lol – now you’re going to make me go watch that cartoon so I know what you’re talking about!
Oh no! This must stop b/c SB is fabulous – some episodes seem to have been made for adults.
“Band Geeks” is hilarious. “Squilliam Returns” just cracks me up.
Here is a 2x speed version of the episode “Tea at the Treedome”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe4vv7SF8JQ
Careful, it is very fancy! 😉
You just thought you were done with cartoons!
It looks great! I love the lining too. I must finish my darned blanket before I can start mine. 🙂 Soon, though!
