Wrapping Up – Blankets

As I’ve said before, I’ve been working hard on finishing up all the projects that I have previously started and put away for one reason or another.  I think Spring time has really inspired me.  Everything is so fresh and new.  I want to start on something fresh and new but don’t want all of those sad projects saying “finish me I want to enjoy Spring too”.

So over the next few days I will be sharing the projects that have been sitting in project bags and the closet finally having their time to shine.

This childs blanket is a simple crochet ripple pattern that has been around for years.  If you do a google search you should be able to find a free pattern.  I’ve made it so often in the past that it just comes to me.  I used some Lion Brand Homespun that I had in the stash and a size N/P hook.

From Projects

This child size blanket is called Circles to Square Afghan by Shiri Mor and is available as a free pattern on Lion Brands web-site.

From Projects

I only made the small and medium squares since I didn’t want a full size blanket.  I used Red Heart Super Saver yarns.  I skein of 3 different colors.  A fun way to play with a pattern without committing to a large blanket.

It feels good to get these finished.  Now to pack them off and send them to my nieces.

What a Wrap

I joined a new group (new for me) on Ravelry called Lisa’s Designs.  They have CAL’s of projects designed by Lisa Gentry.  It’s a very active fun group.

The What a Wrap is one of the projects that they just completed.  It is available for purchase on Ravelry and also on Lisa’s web-site Hook and Needle Designs.

I came in around the finish of this particular CAL but just managed to squeak this one through.

I used Bernat Cool Crochet in the colors Neopolitan and Summer Cream.  I held both colors together and used a H hook.  This yarn has a nice drape and will make a nice summer wrap.

I hope you all have a safe and happy Weekend!!

Crochet/Beading Frenzy

I can’t believe it’s the 10th of April already.  The days just keep flying by.  I’ll blink and it’ll be the middle of summer!

This week I have been on a crochet/beading frenzy.  I found this pattern on Ravelry called Beaded Flamboyance  by Lisa Gentry at   Hook and Needle Designs.  I usually only make one or two of something, but I think this pattern is addictive.  There are so many possibilities and bracelets are quick.

I used size 3 thread, an E hook, and size 6 seed beads for this one.

From Projects

I used size 3 thread, a C hook, and size 8 seed beads for this one.

From Projects

I used size 3 thread, D hook and size 8 seed beads for this one.

From Projects

I used size 3 thread, D hook, and two different size 6 beads for this one.

From Projects

I used size 10 thread, a C hook, and size 8 seed beads for this one.

If you have a chance and would like to do a quick and fun project I would recommend this one!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Busy busy busy

That’s what I’ve been.  When you are home you are supposed to have more time, not less.  I need to instill some time management, ahhh next week!

Here are a few little projects that I have completed.

From Projects

This cup cozy is called Patty by Jenny Raymond.  I used Simply Soft in Plum Perfect and a size 7 needle.

From Projects

This is called Garter Stitch Eyelet Facecloth by Nanette Blanchard.  I used Lily Sugar’n Cream in Floral Print and a size 7 needle.

From Projects

This is called Mini Mitts by Patti Pierce Stone. I used size 2 needles and some baby yarn that I had in my stash.   I am making these as a donation for an Oregon Hospital, a lady on Ravelry requested preemie items for her local hospital.  Also these

From Projects

These are crocheted mitts, I thought they were bulkier than the knit ones.  They are called Care Wear Preemie Mittens by Care Wear

From Projects

These are some baby washcloths that I made as part of a shower gift.  For the stockinette stitch ones (blue) I used a size 6 needle and some dk weight baby cotton.

I co 30 stitches and knit 4 rows, then row 1 – knit, row 2 – k3, p24, k3.  I alternated these two rows and ended with knit 4 rows.  Simple simple.  The diagonal cloths are a common grandmothers favorite pattern that can be found all over the internet.

Until next time Happy Knitting and Crocheting!!

Modified Cradle Purse

A while back I came across this pattern called the Cradle Purse by Betty Rector.  I think it’s such a fun idea for a child.  I am making this as part of a baby shower gift, this is for the older child.

From Projects
From Projects

This uses very little yarn, I had some left overs of Caron Simply Soft in two shades of purple and I used a G Hook.  The following are my modifications for the pattern  I wanted mine a little wider so I could fit a larger doll.

  • Row 1: per pattern
  • Row 2: ch3, dc in the next 18, 2dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 19, 2dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, join to beginning of round
  • Row 3: ch3, dc in the next 18, 2dc in the next 4 stitches, dc in the next 19, 2dc in the next 4 stitches, join to beginning of round(54 stitches)
  • Row 4 – 7: ch3, dc in each dc, join at the end of each round
  • Row 8:  row 7 of pattern (I placed my markers later)
  • Row 9: row 8 of pattern
  • Row 10-14: dc in each dc around
  • Row 15: ch3, make 3dc in same stitch as ch 3,* skip next 2 stitches, sc in next stitch, skip next 2 stitches, 4 dc in the next stitch* around, join at the top of ch3 and fasten off.
  • Cradle Hood – I placed my markers at this point. Find center of top/end of cradle, place a marker.  Count 10 stitches on either side of marker and place another marker.  This will be your 21 stitches for the cradle hood, then follow pattern.
  • I wove my drawstrings over and under 2 stitches.

This works up in just a few hours so I put this on my quick gift list.

Chevron Cardi

The days are flowing by and it’s almost the end of February.

There is a group on Ravelry called Crochet Clothing CAL and they are currently crocheting the Chevron Lace Cardigan by milobo.  It’s fun when you can find a group that is or has been making a certain item.  This is, imo, an easy project.  I only had to frog once, and that’s because the first size I picked was too big.  Of course, I had to be difficult and use a worsted weight yarn instead of the recommended dk weight, but I am trying to use what I have in my stash.

From Projects

Sorry for the blurry picture, but I find it hard to take a picture of myself.

I used 3 skeins of  Caron Simply Soft in the color Autumn Red and a size I hook. I had bought this yarn for a blanket and ended up not liking the blanket so now I have several skeins of this yarn.  Oh well, three down and several  more to go.

The only changes I made was 1) I used Chainless single crochet  for the neckline 2) once I reached where I wanted to start the sleeve I crocheted 20 stitches (instead of 10) for the underarm (I personally need more room in that area).  I crocheted right on the row I was working instead of doing this separately.  I tried both ways and I didn’t see much of a difference.  3) I did a few rows of sc edging around the fronts and neck instead of sc and dc, this was also personal preference.

If you have a chance check out all of the beautiful cardi’s on Ravelry.  I would like to make this again with the recommended yarn weight.

Boxy Lady Project Bag

I just finished my Boxy Lady Project Bag by pdxWoman.  Right now this project is only available on Ravelry.  I can’t say enough about how much I like it.  The size is perfect for me for smaller projects.  It works up to about 8″ square.

The lining is easy to do.  I cut five, 8-1/2 squares of fabric, applied an iron on fabric stiffener and then sewed them together and placed in the bag and hand sewed the top.  Perfect.

I made the bag with Peaches & Creme Mountain Shadows and a G hook.  I had a cone of this yarn and it used quite a bit of it, about half. The only changes I made to the pattern were personal preference.  I didn’t join each round, I just crocheted around continuously, I like to see how different yarns pool.  I attached the d-rings in the last row of sc, and I used an i-cord handle.

Great project!

It’s Raining Snakes!

O.k. that’s a little bit of an exaggeration.  Two does not signify raining, but what can I say, it was fun.  My grandchildren have been fascinated with anything living outside.  So I made them some safe snakes.

From Projects

The pattern is Camo Snake by Catherine Lindsay.  What a fun snake to make.  I used Red Heart Super Saver in the color Camouflage with a G hook.  On the second snake I did one extra row of decreases so the snake would be a little thinner.  I didn’t want them to be exactly the same.  I also used jingle bells in their tail so they would make a little rattle noise.

P.S. Elizabeth you were right – you guessed snakes!

Sneak Peak

Normally January just drags by for me.  This year I can’t believe it’s almost over.  Maybe it has something to do with age, the older I get the faster time just flys by.  It’s like I can just stand here and watch it go.

Here is a little sneak peak of the projects that I am currently working on, not all of them, but a few.
